Elena + Katie’s Prospect Park Elopement
Photographer: Judson Rappaport | Location: near Baier Music Island, Prospect Park | Officiant: Once Upon A Vow
Elena and Katie was the last couple of ours who had to postpone due to COVID. They were supposed to get married in December 2022 but when they got sick right before their original wedding date, they made the difficult decision to reschedule. While they planned on inviting a few guests, they decided that they’d rather elope - just them, their officiant, and photographer.
They chose our fully-personalized Candid Love elopement experience that included a personalized wedding ceremony and 2-hours of documentary-style photography. They wanted to feel connected to one another, present in this long-awaited moment, reminisce on their journey, and manifest a brilliant future.
Excerpt from Elena and Katie’s Brooklyn Elopement Ceremony:
“Aside from the pretty foliage, pumpkin everything, and the start of the holidays, the Fall is filled with many new beginnings and transformational events. It’s a time of year that marks a number of anniversaries including that of when you two first met.
Let’s not forget that you came together as colleagues at The Animal Medical Center, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in November of 2019!
Those early months together opened you both up in ways you weren’t expecting, but very much welcomed. Of course, once you got past being co-workers and shortly after your speedy transition into dating, a global pandemic hit and complicated everything.”
Excerpt from Elena and Katie’s Brooklyn Elopement Ceremony:
“You prefer passion and kisses that quite literally make you feel like the earth is moving under your feet; you want weird inside jokes and guaranteed big bear hugs that soothe your achy soul. You crave tender everything and sweet nothings and all the little things that bring you closer and closer to understanding what contentment actually is - to feel a sense of peace - to know a bit of bliss.
Katie, for the woman you love to be willing to follow you to Georgia was a big deal for you too. While asking someone to uproot themselves and move to where you are - move to be with you - is not something you’d want to pressure someone to do. You had to, at least mention, that you wanted her to join you if she felt so inclined.
And she was. That YES to crossing state borders and pushing boundaries was the first of many. But the truth is Katie, that you knew Elena was for you, the moment you heard her share that story about how she responded when her mom read her the Missing Piece by Shell Silverstein.
The moral of the story has to do with our individual discovery that we are whole all on our own and not missing a piece after all. But little Elena with all of her genuine empathy was left wondering and worrying about all of the pieces in the story that had been passed over by the protagonist whilst it was in search of the one that fit perfectly. So, she asked her mom to add new lines with alternative happy endings where all the pieces find their matching pieces.
Not only is that story a glimpse into your giant heart, Elena, but it also speaks volumes about your innate faith in LOVE and how from a very young age, you believed there was a complimentary person for everybody. And learning that about her, Katie, was enough to convince you that she was absolutely right. How could she not be? She was a kid and kids tell it how it is and how it should be.”
