Sliding Scale Wedding Officiant Services: Our Commitment to Inclusivity

At Once Upon a Vow, we believe that love is for everyone, regardless of income, background, or identity. We understand that wedding ceremonies are a deeply personal and meaningful experience but for many, the cost can be a barrier.

As part of our mission to make love and commitment accessible to all, we are proud to offer Sliding Scale Wedding Officiant Services for couples who identify as part of marginalized communities, including:

  • Low-income working-class families

  • Immigrant communities

  • Queer and LGBTQIA+ partnerships

  • Black, Indigenous, People of color

  • Veterans

We stand firmly against the current political regime that viciously targets these communities, and we are dedicated to providing affordable and meaningful wedding officiant services to those who need it the most. We believe love and marriage is a human right and we are here to celebrate ALL LOVE, especially for those of us who had to fight tooth and nail for this basic right.

How the Sliding Scale Works:

Our sliding scale is designed to offer flexibility in pricing based on financial need. We want to ensure that you don’t have to sacrifice the meaningful ceremony you deserve because of financial constraints. For those who meet the criteria and qualify based on financial need, we offer discounted rates with additional flexibility depending on your specific situation. We, of course, also offer payment plans that are convenient for you.

Do You Qualify?

To ensure that our sliding scale services reach those who truly need them, we ask that you consider:

  1. Income Level: Self assess. If you are part of a low-income or working-class family, you qualify.

  2. Marginalized Identity: We prioritize couples from marginalized communities, including immigrant and LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, who may be facing additional challenges in today’s political climate.

What If I Don’t Qualify but Want a Deal?

Please keep in mind that we are human beings running a small business living in an expensive city who are also trying to survive this regime with some semblance of dignity. If you’re not sure you qualify but like a deal, please consider your:

  1. Wedding Vendor Team: Ask yourself if your venue, catering, photographer, DJ, or florals costs as much or more than the officiant services we offer. Since we’ve been based in NYC and Boston for a decade, we know how expensive these vendors can be and, as officiants, we know we are among the least expensive, most personalized, and most flexible of any wedding vendor. Arguably, we are the most important too since we legally unite you in marriage and set the celebratory tone for the rest of your wedding day.

  2. Privilege: As immigrant and first generation siblings, we have learned to recognize our own documented and able-bodied privilege. We pride ourselves in continuing the good work to unlearn and dismantle the biases we grew up with. Living in progressive cities, we hope that those with privilege do not take advantage of this sliding scale offering that is specifically designed for couples in need. If you think you don’t qualify but want a deal anyway, please consider an officiant who embodies your same privileges.
